The museum opens again on May 23rd so the exhibition area is all builders and dust at the moment. Meanwhile preparations are going on behind the scenes - today I sewed a lining into a fässing, as used by a Borås knalle. (I will be there for a couple of days lending a hand in the run up to opening day). Check out this link for instructions to sew your own fässing. |
It's Textilmuseet in Borås - only it hasn't got there yet, so Rebecka is washing with a temporary set up.

Last Friday, June 7th, I was in Copenhagen at Statens Museum for Konst, to speak to Merete Sanderhof about how they are using their digitised collections, as research for my Masters dissertation. She was kind enough to get me a ticket to their current exhibition Flowers and Worldviews which includes pages from the Gottofor Codex. (Interestingly they have removed the pages from two of the four books to frame and display them - but that maybe the topic of a different post about ethics). The exhibition also features a small conservators studio (see photo). The same space included a table with headphones and a video of the conservator at work. Times when the conservator would be working were clearly posted, and visitors were invited to send questions by email or twitter. Why my sudden interest in advocacy? I am currently also part of the project team that is planning the NKF-S course 17-18 October: Media and Politics, the conservator as opinion builder. Click on the link to find out more information, register to come and join us. One of the workshop leaders is Amy Drago from the British Museum who will talk about her experience of conservation in front of the public. There will also be workshops on rhetoric, social media tools, lobbying, answering journalists questions and much more.
